30-05-2017

Governors Island Phase 1: Park and Public Space was awarded a 2017 A+Award from Architizer in the Landscape and Planning, Public Park category. Architizer is the largest and fastest growing network for architecture online. It is a platform that aims to empower design professionals to operate in a networked world, source products, find work, and build better buildings, better cities, and a better world.

For the past 5 years, Architizer has been curating the A+Awards to showcase particularly great work. The award categories span commercial, hospitality, institutional, landscape and planning, and residential projects. The projects are judged by both Architizer readers and over 400 professional jurors from diverse creative fields. The 2017 featured jury members are Beatrice Galilee, Troy Conrad Therrien, Keely Colcleugh, Kristian Lars Ahlmark, and Cynthia Rowley. These esteemed designers and the collective jury selected Governors Island Park and Public Space as the jury winner of the Public Park category. West 8 New York Creative Director Daniel Vasini and Sarah Krautheim of the Trust for Governors Island attended the red carpet A+Award gala to accept the honor on behalf of the team.

Governors Island Phase One: Park and Public Space creates 30 acres of public space and adds key amenities to the historic North end of the Island, where visitors arrive via ferry. Phase One is the catalyst for a long-term strategy of engaging the community at large by bringing in new tenants and programs, addressing environmental realities, and making it all accessible to every New Yorker.
